ARES Parent Engagement Policy

At Ashford-Rumble Elementary School, we believe that strong partnerships between families and the school community are essential to the success and growth of every student. This Parent Engagement Policy outlines our commitment to building meaningful connections with families and ensuring that parents play an active and informed role in their child’s education.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to encourage open communication, support collaborative learning, and create opportunities for families to engage with the academic progress of their children.

Our Commitment to Families

Ashford-Rumble Elementary recognizes that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. We are committed to:

  • Fostering a welcoming and inclusive school environment.

  • Encouraging two-way communication between school and home.

  • Supporting families with tools and resources to reinforce learning at home.

  • Respecting and valuing the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our families.

Family Data Events

To support parents in understanding and supporting their child’s academic progress, Ashford-Rumble Elementary will host three Family Data Events during the school year. These events will serve as key opportunities for families to:

  • Receive personalized academic updates and student progress reports.

  • Learn about grade-level expectations and instructional strategies.

  • Ask questions and engage in goal-setting with teachers and staff.

  • Collaborate on ways to support learning at home.

Family Data Events Schedule:

  1. Fall – Beginning-of-Year Progress & Goals

  2. Winter – Mid-Year Check-In & Support Strategies

  3. Spring – Year-End Review & Transition Planning

Families will receive communication about the dates and formats of these events well in advance. We will offer both in-person and virtual options when possible to accommodate all families.

Parent Roles and Opportunities

Parents and guardians are encouraged to:

  • Attend Family Data Events and school conferences.

  • Communicate regularly with teachers about student progress.

  • Participate in school events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities.*

  • Promote a positive attitude toward education and school attendance at home.

*All parent volunteers must fill out a Parent Volunteer Application to be approved by the county board before attending any school events.

Feedback and Communication

We welcome and value parent input. Feedback on this policy and our family engagement efforts can be provided through:

  • Annual parent surveys

  • Direct communication with the school principal or staff

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it reflects the evolving needs of our families and school community.

Testing Transparency

Ashford Rumble Elementary students take the West Virginia General Summative Assessment each spring.  Data from this assessment is provided to parents in the fall.  The assessment is for grades 3-5 at the elementary level.

Ashford Rumble Elementary students also complete i-Ready Diagnostic assessments for Reading and Math.  This assessment is completed at the begginning , middle and end of the year to monitor student growth.

Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan is a working document that outlines our school goals and the action steps to reach those school goals. We review this throughout the school year, and it is revised annually. Please see our 2025-2026 Strategic Plan below:
