BCS Excellence in Action: Boone Career and Technical Center Shines at Educators Rising State Championships

Boone County Schools is proud to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of students from the Boone Career and Technical Center (BCTC) at the recent Educators Rising State Championships. Our students represented Boone County with professionalism, talent, and determination—earning recognition among the very best career and technical education programs in West Virginia.

In the varsity competition, BCTC students earned an impressive 12 total medals, including 6 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. This performance placed Boone County second in the entire state, trailing only Mercer County by a single medal.

When junior varsity competitions are also included, Boone County’s total rises to 13 medals, tying Mercer County for the most medals in the state.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the context. Mercer County competes with 567 career and technical education students from four feeder high schools, while Boone County competes with 383 students from three feeder high schools. Despite serving a smaller student population, Boone County students performed at a level equal to the state’s largest programs.

These results reflect the quality of instruction, preparation, and student commitment taking place every day at the Boone Career and Technical Center. Educators Rising competitions challenge students to demonstrate skills related to the teaching profession, including lesson planning, instructional delivery, public speaking, and educational leadership. The success of our students shows that Boone County is not only preparing future teachers but also developing leaders who are ready to make a difference in their communities.

I want to extend my congratulations to Dr. Jacob Messer and the entire BCTC staff for their leadership in building strong career and technical education programs. Most importantly, we congratulate the students who dedicated their time and effort to competing at the state level and representing Boone County with excellence.

This success is another example of how Boone County Schools continues to expand opportunities through high-quality Career and Technical Education programs that prepare students for college, careers, and service to their communities.

We look forward to seeing similar success as our students compete in upcoming HOSA and SkillsUSA state competitions. If these results are any indication, Boone County students will continue to stand among the best in West Virginia.

Congratulations to our BCTC students—your hard work and success make Boone County proud.
